Attitude Magazine, a UK and Europe-based LGBTQ-focused publication, named Dylan Mulvaney its “Woman of the Year” during the 2023 Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards. Mulvaney is a trans-identifying male and a TikTok influencer. During the awards show, Mulvaney expressed gratitude for the recognition from the LGBTQ community and made reference to criticism from what he termed “extremist media.”

In his acceptance speech, Mulvaney mentioned that he will never reach an “acceptable version of womanhood” by the standards of those who criticize him. He expressed his appreciation for the support he receives from the queer community.

Dylan Mulvaney faced controversy earlier in the year when he partnered with Bud Light for a marketing campaign. The partnership led to backlash and a boycott against both him and the brand, resulting in a significant drop in beer sales.

Mulvaney has spoken about the challenges he faces and the importance of authentic partnerships with trans-identifying spokespersons rather than performative marketing.

Attitude Magazine’s decision to name Dylan Mulvaney “Woman of the Year” highlights the ongoing discussions and debates surrounding gender identity and recognition in contemporary society.
