A 19-year-old University of Iowa student is facing criminal charges after allegedly flipping a table belonging to a conservative student organization during a campus event. The incident occurred on October 31 on the T. Anne Cleary Walkway near the Tippie College of Business and was captured on video showing the student overturning the table and laughing while walking away.
Court documents reveal the same individual had been charged days earlier, on October 27, with similar misconduct involving another conservative group’s table. Among the charges now filed are disorderly conduct, fifth-degree criminal mischief and third-degree harassment.
Victims included a female-only group at the event, who reported feeling intimidated and disrupted by the act. According to campus security and the criminal complaint, the event’s promotional materials scattered across the pavement as the student fled the scene.
University officials confirmed the student has been released and placed under a temporary no-contact order. A non-jury trial is scheduled for March 2026 at the Johnson County Courthouse. The case has reignited debate over free-speech protections and campus discipline procedures related to politically motivated disruptions.
