Dan Bishop, a member of North Carolina’s congressional delegation and a Republican, criticized Missouri Democrat Cori Bush on Thursday for a remark she made about Georgia Republican Byron Donalds, calling it “grotesquely racist” (R-FL).
Donalds has been mentioned as a possible successor to Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who has a majority of Republicans but not the entire House. A fierce battle has been going on among Republicans for control of the House of Representatives, with many members of both parties actively taking sides.
There were 20 votes cast for Donalds on Wednesday when he was nominated, but the other Republicans sided with McCarthy. However, Bush quickly rushed to Twitter to voice her disapproval of Trump’s candidacy.
So the record is clear, @ByronDonalds is not a very outstanding contender for Speaker. He’s just a prop at this point. He backs laws that ensure white people will keep getting preferential treatment, despite being white himself. She found it pathetic that we were not thinking about working with him.
Bush rebutted her claim by saying the Republican Party still planned to employ Donald Trump even though party officials had not actively promoted him for the past two years.
If you see a Black person advance, let the man rise even if you disagree with them, Donal stated on “Varney & Co.” If you want to talk about the future of our company in confidence, you may reach me whenever you like. Nothing in the world could ever make me think of doing that to you, especially not as a Black man to another Black woman. The way you treated me was horrible.
Bush blamed Trump, saying he was responsible for “white nationalist mayhem.”
Because of its importance to Trump’s Make America Great Again plan, which aims to alter the results of the 2020 election, put it out of your mind, Byron; fascism is not progressive. Here, you’re fulfilling a proper function. Your influence in politics will increase but at the price of our way of life. And that’s the most embarrassing part. According to her, it’s obvious which political party seeks to calm white nationalist agitation and which actively promotes it.
When Bishop finally took the floor of the House on Thursday, he let Bush have it for her tweet.
Last night, I was sitting only a few feet from Mr. Trump when the tweet of another newly elected member came across the screen. To this, Bishop cited an article produced by the member’s office and sent to the American public, in which the member claimed that Byron Donalds was a sham. Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of Mr. Donald’s company. You shouldn’t think of him as a mere prop.
The Republican members of the House applauded, and Congressman Burgess Owens (R-UT) nodded in accord before Bishop continued. However, he wouldn’t be present if he were only a prop. All these racial justifications have been repeated for too long and are getting old.
