Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a live event at Utah Valley University in Orem on September 10, 2025. The attack occurred around 12:20 p.m. when Kirk was addressing an outdoor crowd of about 3,000 people, marking the opening of his “American Comeback Tour.”
Witnesses reported hearing a sudden gunshot during a Q&A session. Video and eyewitness accounts show Kirk reacting sharply—appearing to be struck in the neck—after which blood was seen streaming from the wound. Panic ensued, with attendees scrambling for safety. Security personnel moved him offstage, and he was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Law enforcement indicated that the shot likely came from a rooftop approximately 200 yards away, possibly the Losee Center. Early in the investigation, authorities detained a person of interest—but that individual was released later after questioning when they did not match the suspect’s description. Officials confirmed no second shooter or additional casualties were involved.
Utah’s governor denounced the incident as a “political assassination.” The FBI and state agencies have united in the investigation, and the university campus remains closed until further notice. Security at future political events is now under urgent review.
