A known gang member facing human trafficking charges became the first migrant arrested under the Trump administration’s newly invoked Alien Enemies Act. The individual, identified as a Venezuelan national linked to the violent Tren de Aragua gang, was apprehended during a targeted operation led by federal immigration authorities.

Officials confirmed that the suspect was already the subject of an active warrant related to smuggling and trafficking operations that spanned multiple states. The arrest marks a significant milestone in the administration’s aggressive push to use the centuries-old Alien Enemies Act as a tool to detain and deport migrants deemed national security threats.

Authorities stated that the gang member had been operating within U.S. borders while engaging in crimes involving forced labor and the trafficking of women and children. Federal agents tracked the suspect following intelligence reports connecting him to ongoing criminal activity in a known gang stronghold.

The administration defended the decision to activate the Alien Enemies Act, arguing that traditional immigration enforcement tools were insufficient to combat transnational criminal organizations like Tren de Aragua. Officials stressed that this legal measure enables faster detentions of high-risk individuals without prolonged court battles.

The arrest is expected to trigger further detentions of gang members and associates already identified through ongoing investigations. According to federal sources, additional operations are planned as part of a broader crackdown on foreign criminal networks operating inside the United States.
