A 79-year-old Vietnam War veteran in Studio City, Los Angeles, is recovering after gunfire ended a violent home invasion. The man says he intervened when a naked intruder broke into the apartment of a female neighbor early Friday morning and began screaming and acting erratically.
According to the veteran, he warned the intruder that he was armed and had contacted the authorities. When the suspect forced him to the ground and fractured both his legs during the struggle, the veteran drew his weapon and fired two or three shots, fatally wounding the intruder.
The veteran underwent emergency surgery and remains hospitalized. Neighbors and local law enforcement have praised his actions as self-defense in a threatening situation.
