During an exclusive interview with Teen Vogue, Vice President Kamala Harris energized and encouraged young voters to champion the Democrats’ agenda on abortion rights. The interview took place on the anniversary of the Dobbs case, following Harris’ speech in North Carolina where she lamented the overturning of Roe v. Wade and labeled pro-life Republicans as “extremists.”
Harris addressed the readers of Teen Vogue, recognizing them as leaders by virtue of their engagement with the publication. She highlighted the significance of their voices and perspectives in shaping the future of the country, particularly through their voting power, organizational abilities, and capacity to lead.
The Vice President stressed that young voters have the power to bring about real change, even potentially altering the composition of Congress. She pointed to successful pro-abortion outcomes in states like Kansas and California during the 2022 midterms, which she attributed to the mobilization of young voters. Harris expressed her hope that these efforts would eventually lead to the passage of federal legislation solidifying access to abortion.
Harris urged Teen Vogue’s teenage audience to engage in conversations with their peers about the importance of voting and the stakes involved. Additionally, she encouraged them to leverage their social media platforms to promote awareness and support for abortion rights. Harris emphasized the need to remind individuals facing challenging circumstances, such as unwanted pregnancies, that they are not alone and that help is available without judgment.
It is worth noting that Kamala Harris is at the forefront of the Biden administration’s abortion agenda as she prepares for her 2024 reelection campaign alongside President Joe Biden. In May, she met with representatives from the abortion industry and other organizations to seek advice on effectively spreading the pro-abortion message across the United States, aiming to avoid being confined to the “D.C. echo chamber.” EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest pro-abortion PAC, plans to launch a campaign of over $10 million in support of Harris, aligning with their mission to elect pro-abortion Democratic women to public office.
