Representative Brian Waltz condemned the technical and logistical failures during President Trump’s United Nations speech as an embarrassment and pledged to push for funding restrictions and reform.
Waltz criticized the malfunctioning escalator and broken teleprompter, stating that they undermined the dignity of the presidency and U.S. leverage on the world stage. He called the events wholly avoidable with better planning.
As a response, Waltz vowed to back legislation freezing U.S. funds to segments of the U.N. until internal restructuring is enforced. He also suggested audits of U.N. infrastructure to prevent future high-profile blunders.
The remarks come amid broader tensions over America’s relationship with the U.N., where calls for accountability and sovereignty are growing within Trump’s allies. Waltz’s proposal signals a tougher posture toward international bodies following domestic embarrassment.
