Here we are, nearing zero hour, and Senator Dianne Feinstein has stated, rather cryptically, that she has a letter that could incriminate Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh… and the timing here cannot and should not be ignored.
“I have received information from an individual concerning the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court,” Feinstein said in her surprise statement. “That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further, and I have honored that decision. I have, however, referred the matter to federal investigative authorities.”
According to a report by The Intercept, the letter was relayed to lawmakers by an individual affiliated with Stanford University and concerns an incident involving the 53-year-old Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high school. According to two officials who spoke anonymously with the New York Times, the incident involved possible sexual misconduct between Kavanaugh and the woman.
Now, Wall Street Journal’s Kimberley Strassel is coming out swinging… mainly about the timing of such a statement regarding the SCOTUS pick: “Timing here cannot be ignored. Coming only after Democrats were unable to further stall a vote. And just to be clear, Ds and media are now using a secret letter with a secret accusation from a secret person, to try to take down Kavanaugh. Scary”
Another big problem with this whole debacle is that, according to the New York Times, Feinstein may have been aware of this alleged letter’s existence since the summer. Strassel further commented about that, as well: “This is impt enough to be sent to FBI, but not impt enough to have been raised before now? Can’t be both. NYT reports she got the letter this summer.”
The timing and the handling downright suspicious… It’s entirely out of left field and I feel if there is anything to it, the fact that a sitting representative sat on it for what seems like weeks should be held accountable.
