WATCH: What Do Venezuelans Think About Democrats Pushing for Socialism?

When I was growing up, politicians were warning Americans about the evils of socialism. They were talking about the Russians. Today, you would be talking about the Democratic party.

When I was growing up, someone who killed little babies was considered a monster. Today we know them as Democrats. If someone tried to take your hard earned money away, they were known as thieves or burglars. Today, we know them as Democrats. All my life I have been warned of the evils that the Democrats now embrace.

But, you don’t need to take my word about socialism. You can take the word of people who were wealthy and happy, and then turned to socialism and today people are starving to death because they can’t buy a loaf of bread. Cabot Phillips of Campus Reform, went to Washington to talk to expatriates about what socialism has done to their once proud country.

He started by asking one simple question:

“What would be your message to people who think socialism would be a good idea here?”

    From the Conservative Tribune

“Look yourself in the mirror of Venezuela and Cuba. You do not want anyone even close to socialism to come to this country,” one man said, almost putting a period after each word.

“People are eating from trash bags in the street,” another woman said. “So, how has socialism actually helped the country?”

“From the perspective of people who’ve lived through failed socialism, it’s very hard to accomplish,” another interviewee said.

“It doesn’t work the way the book says it works because we’re human and we have imperfections and socialism is too perfect to be true,” said another.

But this was perhaps the best warning: “I don’t think any Venezuelan can really like socialism because we’ve seen it put in place very well,” one woman said.

Later, she added ominously: “We also thought that this could never happen in our country. We had a balance of powers. We had democracy and we elected our leaders.”
