Weinstein Company’s First Post-Scandal Movie Numbers Are In!

I love horror movies, man! I do! But I’ll admit I had no idea this was even coming out. I guess I’m out of the Hollywood loop seeing as how they’re a bunch of crazy liberals who think they should tell you how to think and feel.

    Anyway, rant over.

Amityville: The Awakening starring Bella Thorne saw a limited release over the weekend in only 10 theaters. It grossed just $742. My phony-baloney estimate puts that at $74,200 if the film had seen a typical release of say 1000 theaters.

Your actions can have consequences, folks. Side note: I hope Bella Throne didn’t have to do anything untoward to get the role. Hey! You gotta wonder about these things in a post-Weinstein world!

    As reported by Daily Mail:

The spin-off from the hugely successful original 1979 film The Amityville Horror had had its theatrical release delayed several times in the past year.

In September, The Weinstein Company announced it would be available to download for free from Google Play from October 12 to November 8 and have a limited one-day theatrical release on October 28.

The film, that only scored 20 percent on RottenTomatoes.com, stars Bella Thorne as a teen who moves into the Amityville house with her family unaware of its dark past. They then find themselves haunted by a demonic entity.

The Amityville legend is based on events recounted by Jay Anson in his book about the Lutz family who moved into a home on New York’s Long Island in 1975 only to be subjected to terrifying paranormal activity.

The year before, Ronald DeFeo had massacred his parents and four siblings in the house.

He is serving six life sentences for the killings in a prison in upstate New York.

The 1979 movie adapted from Anson’s book starred Josh Brolin and Margot Kidder and grossed just over $86 million.

In 2005, MGM released a remake of the original starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George and proved a big box office hit, raking in $108 million worldwide.
