The Trump administration unveiled a new plan Tuesday aiming to slash U.S. drug costs by launching “TrumpRx,” a government-run website designed to let consumers buy medications at reduced rates.
As part of the initiative, Pfizer agreed to offer its drugs to Medicaid at “most-favored-nation” pricing, matching lower costs paid in other developed countries. In return, Pfizer pledged a $70 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing and R&D.
Officials expect TrumpRx.gov to go live in early 2026 and allow individuals to directly purchase qualifying medications at discounted prices, bypassing traditional pharmacy channels.
The deal also includes provisions for tariff relief on Pfizer imports over a three-year period, contingent on the company increasing domestic production.
With this agreement, the administration signals its intent to pressure other pharmaceutical companies into similar pricing arrangements, while positioning TrumpRx as a centerpiece of its consumer health agenda.
