On Thursday, CNN commentator Don Lemon said that Haley had already passed her ‘prime.’
On Monday, Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of “The View,” appeared to repeat CNN presenter Don Lemon by saying that former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley is not part of a “new generation” before pointing out Haley’s age.
Goldberg said, “You’re not a new generation, you’re 51,” after playing a clip of Haley asking for a new generation of leadership in Washington, D.C.
What are you talking about? Keep going, Goldberg said.
While comparing Haley’s age to that of many Washington, D.C. politicians, Haley’s co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin claimed that Haley represented a new generation.
Goldberg shot back, “Not a brand-new cohort here. She’s probably younger than most of them, yet she talks the same way. This is the same nonsense she’s been repeating.”
She then cited a second video in which Florida’s first Gen-Z congressman, Democrat Maxwell Frost, echoed the need for a new generation to take the helm in politics: “I like the child, but if you want younger people to run, you have to go out and tell them to do it. Don’t give me that line about how it had to look like us is necessary. That’s a fact, and we’re aware of it. It is something that is already common knowledge among us. We will not support candidates who do not put our interests first.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin replied to a clip in which Haley said that lawmakers over the age of 75 should be subjected to “mental competence” exams.
“I can’t believe she would suggest that someone over 75 requires a test of their mental capacity. She really ought to get her brain checked out, “This is what Hostin remarked.
During Thursday’s episode of “CNN This Morning,” Lemon said that women are at their best in their twenties, thirties, and “maybe 40s,” implying that Haley was past her “prime.”
The host afterward tweeted an apology, but left out Haley’s name, saying he deeply regretted his remarks.
“I apologize to friends and family for this morning’s insensitive and unnecessary allusion to a woman’s “prime.” Age has nothing to do with a woman’s value as a person or an employee. Every day, I am reminded of it by the innumerable women in my life “Hours after remarking, Lemon tweeted about it.
At a Friday morning editorial call, he apologized to his coworkers and stated his belief that women can achieve success in any field at any age.
“When I inevitably screw up. The two of them are mine, and I own this one too. I fully get your dissatisfaction and anger, “Said Lemon. To Nikki Haley specifically: “I was attempting to convey the point that no one’s age should determine their desire or possibility for achievement.”
After Lemon’s statements last week ignited a scandal at CNN, he has not hosted his morning program but was not mentioned on “The View.” CNN pundits Ana Navarro (a left-leaning Republican) and Alyssa Farah Griffin (a token conservative) are two of the four women around the table on Monday.
As Haley made her 2024 statement last week, Goldberg criticized her for failing to acknowledge that America was “not flawless.”
“And you, of all people, ought to know better since you once possessed sanity and could distinguish right from wrong. Then you completely flipped out and started heading differently. So, don’t do it,” she remarked.
