“Woke” Officers Targeted as Hegseth’s Defense Secretary Nomination Gains Support

A prominent conservative organization has compiled a list of senior military officers it claims have embraced what it calls “woke” policies, urging Pete Hegseth, the nominee for a key defense role, to prioritize their removal if confirmed. The group argues that these individuals have focused on social and ideological agendas at the expense of military readiness and national security.

The list, reportedly based on internal reviews and public statements, identifies officers accused of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives that the group believes detract from the armed forces’ core mission. Critics within the organization argue that these policies create divisions and weaken operational effectiveness, calling for a shift back to traditional military values centered on merit and discipline.

Hegseth, a veteran and media personality, is expected to face scrutiny over how he plans to address these concerns if he assumes the position. His past comments criticizing DEI programs and other progressive measures in the military have made him a polarizing figure, garnering strong support from conservatives and opposition from those defending the current direction of the armed forces.

Supporters of the proposed changes argue that recent policies have diminished morale and contributed to recruitment challenges. However, advocates for DEI initiatives counter that such measures are essential for fostering an inclusive environment and reflecting the diversity of the nation the military serves.

The debate comes at a time when the military faces mounting challenges, including global strategic competition and modernization needs. Whether Hegseth will adopt the group’s recommendations and how these actions might reshape the military’s leadership and policies remain central questions as the confirmation process unfolds.
