Authorities in Louisiana have arrested a third civilian believed to have assisted in the escape of ten inmates from the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility.
Connie Weeden, 59, was taken into custody in Slidell and charged as an accessory after the fact. Investigators say she maintained phone contact with escapee Jermaine Donald before and after the breakout and allegedly sent him money using a mobile payment platform. Donald remains at large.
Weeden is now the third person arrested in connection with the May 16 escape, joining two others previously charged with helping separate fugitives evade capture. Law enforcement officials have reiterated that aiding escapees will be met with full legal consequences.
The breakout involved inmates removing a toilet to create a hole in the wall, raising serious concerns about facility security. So far, five escapees have been recaptured, while efforts continue to locate the remaining fugitives. An internal review is ongoing.
