A Washington State University instructor has been arrested following an alleged altercation involving a student wearing a politically themed hat.
The incident reportedly began when the student entered the building wearing a “Take America Back” hat. According to police statements, the instructor confronted the student, grabbed the hat, and threw it into the street. When the student went to retrieve it, the instructor allegedly followed and initiated a physical struggle, tackling the student to the ground and making hostile remarks during the confrontation.
Campus police were called to the scene and placed the instructor under arrest. The university has since suspended the individual from teaching duties and confirmed that an internal review is underway, in addition to the ongoing police investigation.
The incident has sparked debate across campus, raising questions about political tolerance, student safety, and the responsibilities of faculty members in maintaining a respectful academic environment. The university emphasized its commitment to upholding both free expression and personal safety while it continues to assess the situation.
