Renowned actress Jane Fonda, at 85 years old, has opened up about her views on dating and relationships in a recent appearance on the “Absolutely Not” podcast. Fonda, who is set to celebrate her 86th birthday on December 21, initially expressed a disinterest in dating, citing her age as a deterrent. “I’m done, I’m over, I’m 86 years old, even in the dark I wouldn’t want to be naked in front of anybody,” she said.
However, Fonda intriguingly added a twist to her dating perspective, stating that if she ever considered taking a lover again, it would have to be someone significantly younger. “If I were to take a lover, he’d have to be 20. Because I don’t like old skin,” Fonda revealed. She also acknowledged her discomfort with the idea of age disparity in relationships, stating her disapproval of large age gaps typically seen in older men dating much younger women.
Reflecting on her past marriages, Fonda recounted her relationships with director Roger Vadim, activist Tom Hayden, and CNN founder Ted Turner. She fondly remembers her time with Turner, affirming that he was her last husband and that they maintained a good relationship post-divorce, including her close bond with his children.
Fonda shared her method of dealing with past relationship frustrations, revealing that she wrote but never sent letters to her exes expressing her true feelings, a therapeutic process she plans to conclude by burning these letters.
In lieu of romantic relationships, Fonda places a high value on her friendships, particularly those with younger women. She finds solace and strength in these connections, noting their impact on her perspective on aging and life. “I’m centered, if I died tomorrow it would be fine,” she remarked, highlighting her contentment and peace at her current stage in life.
Fonda humorously pointed out one advantage of having younger friends: ensuring attendees at her funeral. She has even planned the details of her eventual funeral, including the guest list and music, showcasing her characteristic blend of humor and thoughtfulness.
