Those “Unwilling to Work” Will Be Taken Care of By Ocasio-Cortez?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her new buddy Ed Markey released their much-ballyhooed Green New Deal bill on Thursday, and it’s just about as bad as we figured it would be.

Aimed at taking the United States down to net-zero carbon emissions within ten years, the legislation amounts to one of the grandest socialist programs to emerge from Congress in decades. It also includes a nice little line in there about making sure the government provides “economic security for those unable or unwilling to work.” Isn’t that fantastic.

There was a time not that long ago when Democrats had the self-respect to at least pretend to oppose creating welfare queens who sit around and let the federal government raise their kids and pay for their cable bill. Apparently we’re long past that date in 2019, because we’re pretty sure this is the first time any serious politician has suggested that U.S. taxpayers pick up the tab for those “unwilling to work.” That’s…that’s really something.

Ocasio-Cortez has been asked countless times how she plans to pay for her grand vision, and her answers have been lacking each and every time. Kudos to her for including a “How will you pay for it?” section in the bill, but we’re not sure the answer is much better than her usual deflections. In fact, it’s quite a bit worse.

“The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and investments and new public banks can be created to extend credit. There is also space for the government to take an equity stake in projects to get a return on investment,” the bill suggests.

Oh. Cool. So we’re just going to put it all on a national credit card. That’s about what we would expect from this Bronx bimbo.

For those Americans left who still want to work despite having absolutely no reason to, the Green New Deal proposes the creation of “millions of good, high wage jobs,” most of which will be geared towards moving the country off of fossil fuels and onto wind, solar, hydroelectric, and whatever other kinds of energy can be produced without using oil.

If we can find a way to turn stupidity into energy, Ocasio-Cortez herself can probably bring us down to zero emissions ahead of the goal. Which would be helpful, since by her own predictions, the world is ending in just 12 years.

At least we won’t have to spend our last days on earth slaving away at our jobs.
