Michael Moore Attempts To Propose New Amendment To Overwrite Second Amendment

Michael Moore, an activist and filmmaker, tried to jump back into the spotlight recently in an attempt to propose a new amendment to the U.S. Constitution, claiming that the American public should be afforded the right to be kept safe from both gun violence and the fear it could end up affecting their lives.

Moore attempted to propose the 28th Amendment to the Constitution that he claimed he would repeal and replace the 2nd Amendment. In his comments, he laid out just what this new amendment would involve.

My version of a new amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would repeal and replace the 2nd Amendment:

    THE 28th AMENDMENThttps://t.co/0SRexdqO9b

    — Michael Moore (@MMFlint) July 10, 2022

“The inalienable right of a free people to be kept safe from gun violence and the fear thereof must not be infringed and shall be protected by the Congress and the States. This Amendment thus repeals and replaces the Second Amendment,” the first section of the amendment Moore put forth stated.

The second section detailed the heavy restrictions that would be set in place for the situations in which a legal firearm could be purchased: a national registry and licensing program which would let firearms be utilized only for target shooting, hunting, and — in some very extreme and limited cases where the person can show a legitimate check — self dense. This second section also put a mandate for extensive background checks, which would include interviews with partners and exes and mental health checks, and finally a mandatory one-month waiting period.

The third section would put in place a written test and a mandatory firearm safety course –which would be, by law, required on an annual basis — while the fourth section would increase the minimum buying age to 25.

The fifth section went over all guns, which included types of guns that have not yet been invented, that would be entirely banned as part of the proposed amendment.

    • “All automatic and semi-automatic weapons and all devices which can enable a single-shot gun to fire automatically or semi-automatically”
    • “Any weapon that can hold more than six bullets or rounds at a time or any magazine that holds more than six bullets”
    • “All guns made of plastic or any homemade equipment and machinery or a 3D printer that can make a gun or weapon that can take a human life”

This amendment from the activist also asked for Congress to regulate the total types and amounts of ammo that would be legal to buy — along with body armor, gun storage, and gun sights, along with other things.

The seventh section of this proposal would concern police officers and stated that they would be allowed to continue to train and make use of firearms, but would be under sontant monitoring stripped of their firearms, and their jobs, if they would found to be violent or deemed to be racist at any point.

The last section issued a demand that anyone who already possed a firearm which would be banned as part of this new proposal would have a single month to hand them over for destruction.

The responses to this insane proposal from Moore streamed in:

    • @philthatremains: “This is really, really stupid. His vision for an amendment allows for abuse that would effectively remove all limitation from the federal government. He’s even got a special carve out for thought crime.”
    • @byronyork: “Really kind of amazing. Draconian, as one would expect. And long — longer than 14th Amendment. Just say the moviemaker hasn’t mastered the constitutional amendment style.”
    • @michaelmalice: “They’re in fullblown fanfic mode now, completely untethered to reality it’s so glorious to watch the only thing close to this was the people arguing in 2017 how Hillary could still become president.”
