A Florida congresswoman tried to make some waves this week by saying that President Trump was disrespectful to the widow of a fallen American soldier… turns out, that’s not the case.

The Gold Star widow released a video of her phone conversation she had with Trump back in April regarding the death of her husband in Afghanistan.

“I am so sorry to hear about the whole situation.” President Trump said. “What a horrible thing, except that he’s an unbelievable hero.”

“Thank you. I really, really appreciate it,” Natasha De Alencar said. “I really do, sir.”

“If you’re around Washington, you come over and see me in the Oval Office,” Trump continued. “You just come over and see me because you are just the kind of family … this is what we want.”

“Say hello to your children, and tell them your father, he was a great hero that I respected,” Trump said. “Just tell them I said your father was a great hero.”

This, in response to criticism from Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson. According to her, Trump told Myeshia Johnson that her husband, Sgt. La David T. Johnson, “knew what he signed up for.” Appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday, Wilson added that the widow was in tears after the call and lamented that Trump “didn’t even remember his name.”

“Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!” Trump wrote via Twitter.

Wilson further commented, “He doesn’t even know how to sympathize with people. We’re grieving. This is a grieving community. … It’s disgraceful for him to even tweet about this. And as I say, this gentleman has a brain disorder and he needs to be checked out.”

Though according to the Trump family, we’re only being told about part of the phone call.
