According to reports, the illegal immigrant suspected of beating Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), is not being interrogated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers because of California’s sanctuary state statute.
Police in San Francisco, California, responded to a 911 call placed by Paul Pelosi, according to Breitbart News. A 42-year-old man named DePape is accused of attacking Pelosi with a hammer on October 28. The resulting blunt-force trauma to Pelosi’s skull necessitated emergency surgery.
Assault and attempted kidnapping are now charges against DePape.
According to DHS, DePape is an undocumented immigrant who overstays his B-2 tourist visa and has been residing in the sanctuary state of California for some time.
According to former ICE officer and Trump administration insider Jon Feere, DePape is being shielded from ICE officials and cannot be interviewed because of California’s sanctuary state statute.
According to Feere’s tweets, “sources in ICE tell me that San Francisco is not allowing police to interrogate David DePape, the suspected assailant of Paul Pelosi.” Immigrant and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials frequently interview detained foreign nationals to ascertain their next moves, backgrounds, and other relevant information.
Due to California’s severe sanctuary state statute, ICE officers typically forego placing a detainer on an illegal immigrant suspect, assuming that local law enforcement will reject the request.
