AOC Makes False Charges Against Republicans on FDR

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is at it again. She made a statement so off the mark that she should be embarrassed but she won’t be. She’ll just blame Trump and Fox News. She made the claim that the Republicans amended the constitution in order to keep FDR from running again. This is an incredibly false statement.

Here’s why. First of all, the Republicans were in the minority by a large margin in both houses of congress and the president was a Democrat. In order to amend the constitution you need a two thirds majority in both houses and then the president has to sign off on it. From there it goes to the states and after 34 states ratify the amendment, the constitution is amended. There is no way Republicans could have passed the amendment.

Secondly, any law affecting the presidents, it does not apply to the current occupant of the Oval Office. But, the real fact is that FDR died in 1945 and them amendment did not get amended until 1947, two years after FDR’s death.

AOC went on to say that the Civil Rights Act passed solely due to Democrats. But, although more democrats voted for it than republicans, Republicans were far fewer than Democrats. The truth is that in both Houses of congress, a higher percentage of Republicans voted for the bill than Democrats. The resistance against the bill were Democrats led by Al Gore Sr.

    Civil Rights support by party

Someday AOC will get her facts right, but I strongly suggest that you do not hold your breath as it may be a long while when you consider her history.
