New gun laws passed in New Mexico aren’t very popular with the county sheriffs, with 25 of New Mexico’s 33 counties declaring themselves sanctuary counties for gun owners. The Border Patrol is holding 50,000 illegal aliens at border detention centers. Of those 2,000 are being held in medical quarantine for various diseases, including many with the mumps. The Iowa Supreme Court has ruled that the state Medicaid plan must pay for sex reassignment surgery. Depending on what procedure is necessary, the cost can run from 20k to 100k. It is yet unclear whether state taxpayers or federal ones will actually foot the bill.
