Biden Admin Called Out By Arizona Attorney General Over Recent Lawsuit

This past Wednesday, Mark Brnovich, Arizona Attorney General, slammed the Biden administration while making an appearance on Fox News for the bid from the Department of Justice (DOJ) to get rid of a state law that would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.

Brnovich, who currently intends to run for the GOP nomination to the Senate, stated that states such as Arizona must constantly fight the extreme federal overreach from the Biden administration, whether it be about vaccine mandates, the border crisis, or COVID relief efforts.

“Now the Biden administration is suing our state just because we have a requirement that if you want to vote in a presidential election or if you want to vote by mail, you have to show proof of citizenship,” he stated to Harris Faulkner, the host of “Faulkner Focus.”

Brnovich claimed that the move from the DOJ was the “height of absurdity” coming from officials within the Biden administration.

“The Biden administration has incentivized and decriminalized people coming into this country illegally, and now they don’t want Arizona to check for citizenship,” claimed the Attorney General. “You don’t need to be a rocket scientist or even an astronaut to figure out what’s going on here with the Biden administration.”

This past Tuesday, it was announced by the DOJ that they are suing the State of Arizona because of a law signed by Governor Doug Ducey earlier this year which the federal government labeled as “redundant and unconstitutional.”

Authorities claim that the law “turns the clock back on progress by imposing unlawful and unnecessary requirements that would block eligible voters from the registration rolls for certain federal elections.”

Ducey stated that the bill will allow a more balanced approach that defends the state’s voting accessibility history without the need to do away with election security.

“Federal law prohibits non-citizens from voting in federal elections,” claimed Ducey via a letter. “Arizona law prohibits non-citizens from voting for all state and local offices and requires proof of citizenship.”

However, the DOJ officials also claim that the bill is the most textbook violation of the National Voter Registration Act that could happen, which forces Arizona to “accept and use” a valid and completed Federal Form as a means to register qualified applicants for voting in all federal elections. The form itself does not require documented proof of citizenship, but it does ask under penalty of perjury if the person is a citizen or not.

Ducey’s office claimed that during the 2020 presidential elections, roughly 11,600 federal-only voters showed up to cast their ballot in Arizona without the need to prove their citizenship.

Previously, Arizona required proof of citizenship to cast a ballot for federal elections. However, it was struck down by the Supreme Court 10 years ago by claiming it was a violation of the National Voter Registration Act.

Despite everything, Brnovich, along with many other state officials, are choosing to fight back.

Almost directly after the DOJ announcement of its latest lawsuit, Brnovich stated that he is ready to stand against the Biden administration in court.

“It’s another round of Brnovich v. Biden as his DOJ continues its attempts to undermine our election integrity laws,” he stated on social media. “I will see you in court.”

    “Again.” he finished.
