President Joe Biden, for his first formal interview in about 118 days, sat down with famous late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.
Quite a few different topics were covered, which spanned gun control all the way to the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade by the justices of the Supreme Court. Despite the president currently sporting record shatteringly low rates of approval at just 36%, as reported by recent polling data, Biden attempted to insist that his administration has actually done “major things” and has been making serious headway.
In what seems to be his calling card move, President Biden insulted the Republican Party, accusing the party of having moved much too far to the Right.
“A lot of it is intimidation by the NRA. Look, this is not your father’s Republican Party. This is a MAGA party,” he stated in the wake of Kimmel attempting to question him about gu control.
Biden also spoke about his recent trip out to Uvalde, Texas. When Kimmel questioned the President about the possibility of him making use of executive orders in order to force stricter gun laws, that he claims Trump threw out “like Halloween candy,” the President stated that he has zero intention of attempting to mimic former-President Donald Trump.
“I have issued executive orders within the power of the presidency to be able to deal with everything having to do with guns, gun ownership … all of the things that are within my power,” stated Biden.
“But what I don’t want to do, and I’m not being facetious, I don’t want to emulate Trump’s abuse of the constitution and constitutional authority,” continued Biden.
“I often get asked, ‘the Republican’s don’t play it square, why do you play it square?'” added the President. “If we do the same thing they do, our democracy would literally be in jeopardy. That’s not a joke!”
“It’s like you are playing Monopoly with somebody who won’t pass go, won’t follow any of the rules. How will you make any progress if they aren’t following any of the rules?” stated Kimmel.
“We got to send them to jail. That little box,” stated Biden.
Kimmel pushed back against Biden, highlighting the fact that the Democratic Party currently controls both the Senate and the House, but not much has actually gotten done. Biden was quick to jump in and disagree.
“There’s a lot of major things we’ve done. But what we haven’t done is we haven’t been able to communicate it in a way, that is uh, um, let me say it another way.”
Immediately after, Biden started to ramble on about how the nightly news just needed clicks and claimed that Kimmel just failed to “understand” what he was talking about; he “overstands” it. Then just as the president got going about that topic, Kimmel quickly shifted the topic away to explain gently that they needed to go to commercial.

Biden seemed to insist that things were going swimmingly despite admitting that inflation is “the bane of our existence.”
“Here’s where we are,” he stated. “We have the fastest-growing economy in the world. We have 8.6 million new jobs since I got into office. Unemployment rate’s down to 3.6%. We reduced the deficit last year by $320 billion. This year we’re gonna reduce it by $1.7 trillion.”
In the end, Biden and Kimmel finished the interview by talking about the possibility of overturning Roe v. Wade. Biden claimed that he doesnt think “the country will stand for it” and that it would create a “mini-revolution.”
