Chris Cuomo Attempts To Reach Out To Kanye West By Speaking About His Own Mental Health

Chris Cuomo, the host for NewsNation, attempted to reach out and connect with embattled rap and fashion mogul Ye West over his own personal mental health issues throughout a 20-minute interview that took place this past Monday evening as even more questions swirled concerning the worries about West’s own mental health.

The comments from Cuomo took place near the end of their interview in the wake of West going on a long rant filled with many anti-Semitic statements, of which each was met with some fairly solid pushback from the show’s host.

“Here’s my concern for you, when I hear how you talk about your personal life, and you put things out there and you get into these looping thoughts of what you believe, it sounds to me like you are sometimes out of control,” stated Cuomo. “And that this is something that you should be dealing with. Now I’m not excusing your thoughts as illness, okay? People attacked me for that and said, ‘Hey, just because you’re concerned about whether Kanye West is taking care of himself emotionally and mentally —”

“My name is Ye, Sir,” West interrupted.

“Have you been taking care of your health?” asked Cuomo. “And in terms of making sure that you are behaving and thinking at your best?”

“I love what you, the way you worded it, but you don’t realize is when it runs back, people are gonna say, ‘Wow, have you been making sure you’re behaving? If you run that back,” answered West. “If you run that back, you’re gonna be like, ‘whoa.'”

“I’m trying to make sure that you’re healthy and you’re taking care of your health,” stated Cuomo.

“Did you work out this morning?” questioned West.

“No,” Cuomo stated. “But I took my medicine. I took my anti-depressant medication that I take every day.”

In the wake of West accusing the former prime-time host for CNN of trying to cut him off, Cuomo stepped back to give his guest the floor to speak.

“It’s all you,” Cuomo stated. “Go.”

“I don’t have to say how much money is in my account,” West started. “I don’t have to say who I voted on. I don’t have to say why I changed my name.”

“The life for a black person in America is like a constant test, even after we’re out of high school,” he concluded. “After we’re out of college, we’re always being questioned. Why would you do that? Why would you do that? Do you think that I just had the rightness of rhetorical question? Because I don’t want you to answer it. Do you think I had the right to just vote for Trump? I didn’t even vote for Trump because of the people that were around me.”
