Democratic House Majority Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina defended and reaffirmed a comparison between the current status of the United States and Germany in the years preceding Adolph Hitler’s ascent to power.
During this week’s episode of “Fox News Sunday,” anchor Shannon Bream allowed Democratic leader Jim Clyburn to elaborate on his recent claim that the United States “is on course to mimic what occurred in Germany,” and Clyburn stood firm in his assertion.
In his own words, “the facts are quite clear.” “I’ve spent my whole life learning about the past. Formerly, I was a history teacher. There are also similarities to the 1930s in Germany and Italy that may be seen in our global past.”
Clyburn clarified that this wouldn’t apply to voting for any Democrat’s opponent in the midterms, only “election deniers” and “liars.”
Bream then questioned the Democratic Party’s motives for pouring millions into primary battles to bolster Republicans who favor former President Donald Trump, claiming that doing so would be easier than defeating them.
For the general election, Clyburn advised, “always put oneself in the most beneficial position.” I get it, but I’m afraid I have to disagree with it,” he said.
A quote from Clyburn quoted by Bream on Tuesday reads, “Losing our democracy may be the end of the planet.”
Clyburn denied using the slur when questioned about it.
Clyburn stressed that no one thinks the end of the world is imminent. “There is very little time left for democracies. Earth may keep on spinning. Hitler did not prevent the world from being, and his death will not end it.”
Clyburn said: “In other words, there won’t be a nuclear winter. That’s the kind of world we live in and the kind of country we have here. How we want to live on Earth is entirely up to us. This topic has been the main focus of our conversation thus far. Such exaggeration serves no use in our discussion.”
Bream then restated Clyburn’s comments from Tuesday in their entirety.
“Do we reach the end with that? Please pardon me.” In reaction to his comments, Clyburn screamed.
If that was his quote, he corrected it, saying he misspoke.
