Congress Launches Probe Into Walz’s Handling of $1B Food-Aid Fraud

Congressional committees in both the Treasury Department and the House have opened investigations into alleged mismanagement of a $1 billion food-aid program overseen by Governor Tim Walz.

The probe centers on claims that the aid — intended to support vulnerable families — was subject to widespread fraud, with reports of benefits being diverted or issued incorrectly. Lawmakers have asked for detailed records, including distribution logs, oversight protocols, and audits conducted since the program’s inception.

Officials say the investigation aims to determine whether Walz’s office failed to maintain proper safeguards, leading to the misuse of public funds. The inquiry will also examine whether any officials should be held accountable for lapses in oversight or negligence.
