Texas Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw called out CNN over its recent attempts to throw the blame on the GOP for its lack of support for excessive and sweeping gun control laws in the wake of the Uvalde school shooting, highlighting that their proposals would not lead to the end that many Americans want.
Crenshaw, who is a representative out of the state in which the tragedy occurred and also a veteran of the military, issued his statements as part of an interview with Dana Bash on CNN’s “state of the Union” this past Sunday.
“A lot of these policies that I think the Democrats often propose that are gun control policies, they do two things. One, they infringe on the rights of millions and millions of gun owners. And two, they probably wouldn’t have the outcome that you’re hoping for,” exclaimed Crenshaw.
“So if you’re not going to get the benefit that you want but it’s going to come at great cost that generally means it’s not a very great policy,” he continued.
At one point in the interview previously, Crenshaw issued the idea that the best way to go about the situation is to focus on more options for school security that can have the most drastic and immediate change.
“What needs to change is the things that would have the most immediate and succinct effect,” he put forth.
His statements focused primarily on strengthening security in schools, such as police officers on campus and fortifying and protecting entry points.

Crenshaw also stated one potential solution that could possibly be agreed on would be a complete background check system for all firearms.
“So maybe a solution we could agree on would be our background check system. Again, he went through a background check. So the problem isn’t that a red flag law could have solved this. It doesn’t seem clear that would have happened. The problem is that the background check didn’t capture the full story of this person,” he stated.

The rep from Texas highlighted that Republicans have previously put out the idea of background check laws to help make the system better, but Democrats seem to be more focused on the idea of overhauling gun control.
The gunman from the shooting at Robb Elementary School out in Uvalde, Texas, reportedly bought a pair of rifles just after his 18th birthday and was able to pass a background check.
