This past Sunday evening, a rookie running back for the NFL’s Washington Commanders received multiple gunshot wounds as a result of an apparent robbery attempt while in Washington D.C., stated a police report.
Brian Robinson, the running back in question who was previously the star for the University of Alabama before being picked up by his team in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft, was quickly rushed to a local hospital with that a team report labeled “non-life-threatening injuries.” Police officials have reported that he was shot in the “lower extremities” and were attempting to determine if he was the victim of a car-jacking incident.
“We have been made aware that Brian Robinson Jr. was the victim of an attempted armed robbery or carjacking in Washington D.C.,” explained the team via a released statement. “He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated at the hospital where team officials are on-site with him. We ask that you please respect Brian’s privacy at this time.”

As reported by a spokesman for the team, co-owners Dan and Tanya Snyder, president Jason Wright, coach Ron Rivera, team physician Dr. Anthony Casolaro and Dr. Barbara Roberts, a clinical psychologist, all made their way to the hospital in order to be with Robinson.
Dustin Sternbeck, a spokesman for the Metro Police Department, stated that the incident took place just before 6 p.m. est at the 1000 block of H Street, NE, in the district. This particular location is located inside of the Carver Langston neighborhood, which is slightly to the northeast of Capitol Hill proper. Police forces responded to reports of gunshots being fire and discovered Robinson suffering from “a couple gunshot wounds to his lower extremities,” expressed Sternbeck.
Police have, since the incident took place, been able to identify a pair of potential suspects and were able to recover a weapon next to the crime scene as evidence.
Robinson is known for having stood out in the training camps this season and seemed poised to be the starting running back for the team for this coming season. He was already with the team for its preseason finale on Saturday at Baltimore but did not play in that particular game.
The 6-foot, 1-inch, 230-pound Robinson came forth as a starter as a fifth-year senior from Alabama last year, sporting 1,343 total rushing yards and a total of 14 touchdowns to run with the Crimson Tide all the way to the college football championship game, which they ended up losing 33-18 to Georgia.
