Five people were wounded and two more killed when a gunman quickly drove past a cookout taking place just outside a home in San Antonio and opened fire at those in attendance late on Saturday evening, reported police officials.

The attack took place at roughly 10 p.m. in front of the house while the kids slept just inside, as reported by William McManus, the San Antonio Police Department Chief.

The dead were not officially identified, but both were men, he stated.

“The family was barbecuing out in front of the house,” claimed McManus. “For now, [we have] seven people shot out in front of the house barbecuing, a drive-by, multiple rounds fired, two dead, five injured.”

The two victims were pronounced dead on the scene, as reported by the San Antonio Express-News.

The victims of the attack ranged in age from early 20s all the way up to mid-40s, and two of them were reportedly women. Of the six children inside the home, authorities reported that none of them were injured. As of writing, no arrests have been made, and police officials stated they did not even have a description of those who carried out the event, who McManus claimed fired well over 30 rounds at the bbq goers.

McManus chose not to speculate about any possible motives but highlighted that there was a drive-by shooting that happened at the exact same address just last month.

“Back in May, there was a deadly conduct incident at this house, a drive-by, but other than that we don’t have any incidents at this house,” McManus stated to reporters on the scene early Sunday morning. “We have a couple of theories, but I am not going to go into that.”

Just last week, out in the nearby suburb of Castle Hills, a pair of women were killed, and a third received injuries as part of another drive-by shooting. D’Yani Amajanique Denise Thomas, 19, and Kennedi Eunece Braziel, 18, were traveling with the third victim in a car when they were shot many times on the 12th of June.

“It’s a senseless, senseless act, a very violent act,” stated Lt. Tony Crawford with the Castle Hill Police Department. “We’ve tried to canvass the area for any businesses that we believe that these victims and possible suspect cars have traveled.”

Investigators were able to recover well over 50 shell casings around the scene and stated that the killers made use of at least a 9-millimeter and an AK-47.

As of writing it is unclear if the incidents are related.
