The nationwide shortage, caused by the shutdown of an Abbott Laboratories plant in Michigan, has prompted a severe shortage of infant formulas including Similac. AN extremely large shipment of powdered baby formula coming from Germany has officially made it to Indianapolis this past Sunday as the Biden administration attempts to deal with an extreme shortage of the massively vital product for the babies of the country.

Labeled “Operation Fly Formula,” this new operation aims to get the extremely rare formula into the hands of the nation’s infant’s parents by use of military aircraft. This shortage has been getting worse over the past few weeks as a result of quite a few different factors which include the closing down of the nation’s biggest manufacturing plant.

“Folks, I’m excited to tell you that the first flight from Operation Fly Formula is loaded up with more than 70,000 pounds of infant formula and about to land in Indiana,” stated the White House via a tweet from Biden’s Twitter account in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday. “Our team is working around the clock to get safe formula to everyone who needs it.”

This recent shipment of baby formula made it on Sunday morning and will be distributed across the country, stated an official with the Biden administration to CNN. This formula from the initial shipment is slated to go to hospitals, home health care facilities, doctors, and the pharmacies of regions “where the needs are most acute,” read a report from CNN. This preliminary shipment of baby formula, Nestlé Health Science formula — including Alfamino Infant and Alfamino Junior, is entirely hypoallergenic and made for all babies that have an allergy to the most prominent protein in cows milk, as stated one official.

This shortage has been quite a long time coming over the past few months. Back on the 17th of February, one of the country’s largest manufacturers of infant formula, Abbott Nutrition, issued a recall of several lines of their powdered formula and shut down its biggest plant located in Sturgis, Michigan.

This shortage has quite a large portion of parents extremely frustrated as the shelves of every store they go to seem to be barren of the product, and this even includes the likes of Target, Walmart, and various other major grocery chains. Quite a few of these retailers have set in place limits on all formula purchases in order to prevent parents from buyout out inventories to try and stock up while we wait for the stock to start coming back in.

Additionally, most brands are even sold out online or are being sold via a third party for massively inflated prices.
