Other outlets bothering to report on this interview are calling his words and behavior “bizarre” and “insane” but I like to think I see it for what it is… Jim Carrey is tired of the Hollywood elitist crap.
E! News reporter Catt Sadler had the misfortune of getting Carrey in her sights and she pressed on for an interview. He walked circles around her, throw to throw her off, then he decided to give in and tell her just how “useless” all of this (a fashion show) really was. The show, or party rather, was Harper’s Bazaar’s ICONS party at the Plaza Hotel in New York City for Fashion Week and the legendary comedian was really not interested in being there.
I guess other outlets are calling it “bizarre” because he was there and why would he be there if he didn’t want to be? Any number of reasons, his excuse was he was looking for the most useless thing he could find. But who knows, maybe a girlfriend or an agent or a production company required him to go. Regardless, I get what he’s saying. And whether or not he’s a Liberal or Conservative, it’s clear he’s fed up with the Hollywood crap.
Carrey decided to go left field with his reply: “There’s no meaning to any of this. So I wanted to find the most meaningless thing I could come to, and join. And here I am. I mean, you’ve got to admit, it’s completely meaningless.”
“They say they’re celebrating icons,” said Sadler, doing her best to navigate the interview. “Do you believe in icons?”
“I don’t believe in icons,” Carrey answered. “I don’t believe that you exist.”
“I believe that peace lies beyond personality, beyond invention in disguise, beyond that red ‘S’ you wear on your chest that makes bullets bounce out,” he further stated.
Carrey later explains “There is no me. There are clusters of tetrahedrons moving around together.”
As Sadler tried to draw the interview to a close Carrey patted her on the shoulder and said, “We don’t matter. That’s the good news.”
