Husband’s Poisoning Allegations Called ‘Defamatory’ By Lawyer For California Doctor

The legal team for one dermatologist based out of California that stands accused of poisoning her husband via dosing him with drain cleaner has stated this past week that such claims that have been made by her husband are entirely “defamatory.”

As part of an interview held on Wednesday with CBS Los Angeles, the legal representation for Dr. Yue “Emily” Yu, David Wohl, stated that while Yu utilized Drano drain cleaner in the kitchen area, she was not making use of it in any attempts to try and poison her husband. Wohl claimed that any such allegations coming from Yu’s husband, Dr. Jack Chen, are entirely “absurd” and “defamatory,” and part of a “desperate” ploy to try and make sure he kept custody of their children as part of their divorce.

“The idea that my client, who is a 45-year-old well-respected dermatologist in Orange County, would destroy her life, destroy her children’s life, and try to kill her husband is just completely absurd and untrue — and for that matter defamatory,” stated Wohl to CBS Los Angeles.

Wohl explained that the family was struggling with plumbing issues, and any instances of his client pouring the harsh drain cleaner into another container, it was only to try and combat the previously stated plumbing issues, and she poured the cleaner into a cup in order to prevent any splashing of the caustic cleaner. “Any time that she poured Drano into a cup, it was completely empty,” Wohl expressed. “It was for facilitating use in the sink or any other particular part of her house that was clogged as far as the drainage goes, but she never poured any Drano or any chemical into any drink that the father or her husband used or was drinking, ever. That’s completely untrue.”

The lawyer stated that he did not know if Chen had ingested any drain cleaner, and if so, how it happened. “But we do know that he was desperate for a divorce filing,” explained Wohl. “He was desperate to have reasons to gain custody of the children. And we believe completely that these claims that he has made are all part and parcel of that effort.”

Yu was officially taken into custody by officers of the Irvine police just last week in the wake of her husband bringing images of Yu allegedly pouring drain cleaner into his drink to police officials. As seen in court documents that were seen by the New York Post, Chen alleged that Yu had knowingly spiked his drinks with drain cleaner on at least three separate instances back in July. As stated by his lawyer, and reported by CBS Los Angeles, Chen stated to police that he had been noticing an off chemical taste in his lemonade and had been getting increasingly sick for months.

He has been officially diagnosed with gastritis, stomach ulcers, and inflammation of the esophagus. Thinking it could be his wife, Chen set up a “nanny came” inside of their kitchen,  explained court documents. Footage from the hidden camera allegedly shows Yu putting drain cleaner into a cup, which Chen then drinks from. Chen handed this footage over to the police.

“He became ill and his condition worsened over the past month and as a result of him examining his routine he grew suspicious of his wife and placed a video camera in the home they shared and discovered evidence he believes supports the fact that she was poisoning him,” expressed Irvine police Lt. Bill Bingham. Bingham stated that officials with the police found the footage “to be compelling.”
