Police forces in Las Vegas have officially brought Robert Telles, a local Democrat official, into custody for the alleged murder of Jeff German, a Las Vegas Review-Journal investigative reporter.

Police carried out a search warrant against Telles’ house earlier that same day and came back just a scant few hours later to bring him into custody.

Glenn Cook, the Review-Journal Executive Editor, claimed via a statement that the arrest of Telles was “an enormous relief,” but that the newspaper was entirely “outraged that a colleague appears to have been killed for reporting on an elected official.”

Telles failed to win his primary election back in June in the wake of reporting by German spun a negative light surrounding the county’s management.

Law enforcement looked around the property at roughly 7:00 A.M. local time Wednesday morning and roped off a section of Telles’ home, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. A car that police officials think is connected to the murder was spotted at Telles’ house by reporters for the Review-Journal.

Authorities have stated that they think the murder might be connected to an altercation that took place between German and a still unknown party on Friday. The suspected killer, who was seen sporting an orange construction vest and wearing a wide-brim straw hat, just may have been taking time to case the neighborhood for future crimes, as stated by police officials.

Earlier this past year, German issued a report about quite a few scandals that impacted the city while under Telles’ management. German wrote a story back in May that unveiled that sever currently sitting and former employees have alleged that Telles spawned a “hostile work environment.”

The report also stated that city workers also claimed that Telles has an “inappropriate” relationship with one of the staffers, Roberta Lee-Kennet. Footage handed over to German and published by those within the Journal-Review highlighted the pair, both married, secretly meeting up in the backseat of a car.

Though he claimed that he was friends with Lee-Kennet, Telles outright dismissed all of the accusations as just being issued by disgruntled “old-timers.”

“They are unhappy with the way the office has been taken out of their control,” he reportedly stated all the time. “All my new employees are super-happy and everyone’s productive and doing well. We’ve almost doubled the productivity in the office.”
