The pro-abortion policies of the Biden administration have had a busy week. On Thursday, as Spencer reported, the Department of Defense (DoD) revealed that it will be using public cash to advocate for abortion among active-duty military personnel. Joe Biden, Vice President, made it very plain on Tuesday that passing the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) to expand the reach of Roe v. Wade will be one of his top legislative priorities in the upcoming Congress. Concerns about a possible violation of the Hyde Amendment, which prevents government funding of elective abortions, have been raised in light of the DoD statement and other measures taken or planned by the administration.
During a NowThis video interview on Tuesday, Biden said something that makes people even more worried about the Hyde Amendment. On Thursday, Axios’ Sarah Fischer gave a first peek at the footage that will run on Sunday.
According to the data presented in Fischer’s report:
Danielle Mathisen, a 26-year-old medical resident, asked Biden if he would back federal funding for abortion services after he highlighted that some employers have begun helping their workers pay for them.
“The unequivocal response is… I agree with you, and I’ve even openly pushed businesses to take that stance. As president of the United States, I have publicly exhorted them, stating, “This is what you should be doing.” “His words.
“Just think of all the ladies who might need your help but don’t have the resources to come to you for advice since there are so many of them. None. Please explain how they do it. They’re powerless to do otherwise, “As Biden put it.
Fischer’s report is silent on whether or not the Hyde Amendment was discussed, but President Joe Biden’s August executive order limiting travel funding for federal employees has already sparked worries about potential Hyde Amendment violations. The government has remained evasive; for example, Spencer’s piece on the Department of Defense’s recent move mentions how Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra in June chillingly chuckled and didn’t answer questions about public money since the event was “being videotaped.”
Is there any feedback from the present moment?
This video, however, seems to be a clear case of a violation, since he advocates for encouraging low-income women to get abortions with the use of federal funds.
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), a strong supporter of the Hyde Amendment and unborn life, made the following comment to Townhall “Vice President Biden and the Democratic Party support taxpayer-funded abortions up to the time of delivery. How insane is that? It is unacceptable to use public funds to take human lives when we might be spending that money to safeguard them.” The press office for Senator Marco Rubio tweeted on Thursday that he will submit legislation to halt the Department of Defense’s action.
Many pro-life organizations also quickly voiced their disapproval.
“The Democrats and President Biden’s single-minded push for abortion on demand up until birth won’t save them from a Congressional defeat. The White House has been reluctant to even denounce Stacey Abrams’ horrifying argument that it is acceptable to kill unborn children due of the current inflation issue “Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America president Marjorie Dannenfelser made this statement. “Any Democrat running for office should inform voters whether or not they support a federal mandate that would allow abortions to be performed at any time during pregnancy using taxpayer funds. The vast majority of Americans agree with the position that abortion should be restricted, particularly at later stages of pregnancy when unborn kids may feel agony. However, Biden’s extreme agenda is at odds with this position.”
Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life, also gave her opinion. According to her, it’s “heartbreaking to see President Biden is so obsessed with abortion on demand that he is willing to use American tax dollars to push for more abortion” instead of providing federal funding for life-saving options offered by pro-life organizations and maternity homes across the country. “Pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes give women with practical resources to choose life, and polling reveals that a large majority of Americans, including a large majority of Democrats, favor federal financing for these programs. Sad to say, President Biden does nothing to stop his party members from trying to defund life-saving groups like the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.”
CatholicVote also expressed their worries in a Twitter conversation.
The video is even more worrisome in light of Biden and the majority of sitting Democrats’ staunch opposition to the Hyde Amendment. Biden came out against Hyde in June 2019 while campaigning in the crowded Democratic presidential primary, despite having supported Hyde for much of his political career and even boasted as a senator in a letter how he favored stronger limitations on exceptions.
Both of Biden’s proposed budgets for Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023 omitted the Hyde Amendment, which has been unanimously approved by Congress every year since 1976. Democrats put up a battle to get rid of Hyde, and they still do, but in March of this year, they succumbed and Hyde is still federal policy.
The President spoke about infrastructure on Thursday in Pittsburgh, and he also went there to campaign for John Fetterman, who is challenging Dr. Mehmet Oz for the seat of retiring Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA).
During a news conference on his route to Marine One, he was asked “should there be restrictions on abortion at all?” without referencing his comments for the NowThis video. He answered in yes. However, he has not signaled his support for any particular restrictions on abortion. The fact that he said that they are “in Roe v. Wade” further added to the confusion. “Look it over, dude. Learn something, “told the reporter before leaving.
Pro-abortion Biden Democrats who back the WHPA have said that it would only codify Roe, but as Guy has shown, it would really enlarge it. The plan would not only allow for taxpayer-funded abortions, but it would also nullify pro-life statutes enacted at the state level.
When asked about Vice President Biden’s position on abortion limits on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was equally unable to provide a clear answer and gave the impression that President Trump put abortion ahead of inflation.
White House officials met with state legislators Thursday for a discussion they billed as being “on reproductive rights,” adding to the administration’s already heavy focus on promoting abortion.
