Kanye West does not usually attempt to apologize to the mainstream media for saying offensive things, and this most recent “White Lives Matter” stunt is no exception at all.
The 45-year-old rapper posted a statement via social media defending his most recent controversy. The rapper wrote in the post, “Here’s my latest response when people ask me why I made a tee that says white lives matter… THEY DO.”
The “Donda” artist has been dealing with backlash for his wearing of a shirt sporting the message “White Lives Matter” on the back, and the face of the pope printed across the front this past Monday at a fashion show held in Paris. He posed alongside Candace Owens in a now-viral picture as she came to West’s defense in order to further spread his message.
She left a statement on his most recent post sporting multiple laughing-crying emojis.
Reportedly, Jaden Smith rapidly departed his front-row spot at the show as soon as he spotted the pair in their shirts. West also ended up in a quite public argument with Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, a Vogue editor who labeled the shirts as “pure violence.”
Supermodel Gigi Hadid attempted to rush up in defense of Karefa-Johnson, claiming, “You wish u had a percentage of her intellect. You have no idea haha…If there’s actually a point to any of your sh** she might be the only person that could save u.”
Earlier this past week, the musician put out a post on his Instagram story, “Everyone knows that Black Lives Matter was a scam now it’s over you’re welcome.”
West also issued a statement to his detractors, claiming that they were never around for the various other bits of drama in his life, but only crawled up to shout when they are annoyed with him.
“I wonder what Gigi [Hadid] and Venus’s perspectives were when I didn’t know where my child was on her birthday,” stated West in response via a Wednesday Instagram post.
“So why did everyone feel so free to attack me about my t-shirt but Candace Owens was the only public figure to say that it was wrong for the Kardashians to keep me from seeing my daughter?” West stated. “Or we just chime in when we want to tear a black man down for actually having a different political opinion?”
“And for all the audience so outraged about my t-shirt, where were you when I couldn’t see my kids?” he stated. “I went public in hope of public support at that time.”
