Meghan McCain’s first appearance on The View was quite strange. As the new “conservative” lady on the show, the other liberal hosts cut her no slack.
A debate ensued about the NFL #TakeAKnee protests.
“If you are a public servant you are supposed to enforce the Constitution…for Vice President Pence and the president to tell people and almost demand people not exercise their Constitutional rights–that’s very un-American,” Sunny Hostin said of VP Pence leaving an Indianapolis Colts game after players kneeled during the anthem.
“I think we can have a conversation about both things while still respecting what the National Anthem and the American flag mean to people like me,” McCain argued.
Mouthpiece Joy Behar gave her two cents, stating that soldiers died so Kaepernick and the other NFL players could, in fact, protest. She’s not wrong and it is their right to protest but it’s the strategy they’re using which McCain has taken issue with.
“It’s not disrespectful [for people to kneel during the anthem],” Hostin declared to more audience applause.

When she first appeared she discussed her father’s diagnoses, saying,
“I spent the last 3 months, while he was getting radiation and chemotherapy – I can’t believe I’m freaking crying already…” she began. “When you hear ‘cancer’ a nuclear explosion goes off in your life, no matter who you are. And I didn’t realize because you can’t realize until you experience it, how intense and disruptive and scary and hopeless and chaotic you feel all day long.”
She then thanked her co-hosts for allowing her to be part of their particular platform. She further stated that she wants to spread awareness of brain cancer. Her father, on his part, was diligently watching the show and tweeted a showing of support for his daughter over the clip in question.
