President Joe Biden’s approval rating has hit a significant low, marking the poorest showing for a U.S. president in the past 15 years, as per a recent ABC News poll. The survey, conducted by Langer Research Associates with Ipsos Public Affairs, reveals a mere 31% approval rating for Biden, a figure lower than the lowest recorded during former President Trump’s tenure, which was 36%.
This downturn in approval is particularly notable in specific areas of policy. On the issue of immigration, particularly at the southern border, Biden’s approval has halved since spring, standing at just 18%. This is the lowest rating for any U.S. president on the immigration issue since January 2004, according to past ABC News/Washington Post polls.
The economy presents another area of concern for the Biden administration. Only 13% of Americans feel they are financially better off since Biden assumed office. In stark contrast, 43% believe they are worse off, and 41% see no change in their financial situation. This is a significant departure from the mid-term period of Trump’s presidency, where only 13% felt they were not as well off as before he took office.
Further, just 31% of Americans approve of Biden’s handling of the economy, while 56% disapprove. These numbers are indicative of growing public discontent with the economic direction under the current administration.
Biden’s approach to foreign policy, particularly the Israel-Hamas conflict, also sees low approval, with only 26% of Americans supporting his handling of the situation, while 48% disapprove. A notable 25% of respondents did not express an opinion on this issue.
These findings highlight a challenging period for the Biden administration, as it navigates domestic and international issues amidst declining public support.
