This past Tuesday, the members of the Senate of Florida officially passed the Parental Rights in Education bill, which is a potential law that seeks to ban all teachers from kindergarten through third grade from taking efforts to teach gender identity and sexual orientation, would require schools to tell parents if there had been any changes at all in a student’s emotional, physical, or mental wellbeing, and would also allow legal recourse to parents to sue if they think a school has been in violation of any of those agreements. It would also allow teachers to hold back on certain information from parents so long as there is a “reasonable” belief that telling them would end up causing abuse.
The vocal critics of the new proposal claim it would end up harming LGBTQ students by stopping all discussion on LGBT gender and sex topics, creating a harshly unwelcome atmosphere, and creating a possibly more dangerous environment of harm in their homes.
There have been many critics who have maliciously nicknamed the new bill the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, leading many to think that it would end up actually putting a ban on the word “gay” in public schools.
As a result of this malicious nicknaming, it was reported that seemingly in a show of solidarity with voters who are actually wanting all school educators to talk about various progressive sex-related ideas and transgenderism all without parental consent or knowledge, Florida Democrats marched around chanting “Gay! Gay! Gay!” all across the capitol building of the state.
A video clip was shared that showed dozens of people and a group of Florida Democrats chanting “gay!”

However, many supports have come stating that these protestors are entirely misguided.
“This bill says parents your right to raise your children does not end when they walk into a classroom. This bill recognizes that parents are not the enemy,” stated Republican Senator Danny Burgess to NBC News. “The bill simply says that there should be an age limit on certain discussions, it’s not a new concept, nor is it radical.”
The director of policy at the American Principles Project, Jon Schweppe, also stated agreement with the idea that the Left is overtly distorting both what is actually in the wording of the bill and its overall intent.
Schweppe also stated that the legislation is “about respecting the rights of parents and protecting kids.”
“Parents shouldn’t have to fear sending their kids to public school in America, but they do because woke ideologues have become obsessed with teaching kids as young as five that they can change their gender,” continued Schweppe.
“This bill doesn’t do anything the Left claims — kids can talk about their families, even if they’re LGBT. Classroom discussions can still take place about LGBT history,” he went on to clarify. “But this bill tries to provide boundaries, prevent unwanted indoctrination, and give parents more control over the upbringing of their kids.”
