Nellie Ohr is refusing to appear before Congress to answer questions on her job at Fusion GPS. Jim Baker, who was demoted during the Russia investigation also refuses to cooperate. Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte says he will issue a subpoena, that would require them both to appear before his committee.
I have a feeling, there will be a lot of Fifth Amendments flying around if they do show up. Considering what we already know, both are very culpable in shady activities during the campaign and after. Nellie Ohr would probably be asked some embarrassing questions, including why she bought a shortwave radio, possibly to avoid the NSA.
“The Committee continues to seek the testimony of Nellie Ohr and Jim Baker and will compel their testimony if necessary,” an aide to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte told TheDCNF.
Ohr’s contacts with Steele increased after the FBI cut ties with the dossier author just before the election because of unauthorized contacts with the press. Ohr provided at least a dozen briefings to the FBI about his interactions with Steele from November 2016 to May 2017.
Republicans in Congress have questioned why the FBI continued to rely on Ohr to provide back channel information from Steele after they determined that he was no longer fit to be a confidential source.
Steele’s unverified dossier is a focus of the congressional probe because the FBI relied on it to obtain four Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
James Baker worked on both, the Hillary investigation and the Russia witch hunt. There is a lot that the two know that the committee would like them to share. Which is why I don’t believe they will answer the committee’s questions, even if subpoenaed. Here we go.. the deep state prepares.
