FACT (Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust) has contacted the Attorney General of Maryland to investigate corruption concerning Elijah Cummings and his wife, Maya Rockeymoore. Rockeymoore runs a nonprofit.
The contributors have business in front of Cummings’ committee. If that’s all there was to it, Cummings could survive but it doesn’t end there. Rockeymoore then paid her for-profit company with funds from the nonprofit, enriching the couple indirectly from the nonprofit.
It is a fact that Cummings was in debt for 10 years because of hefty child support payments to three women he had children by. But once he got married, he became flush with cash.
After the initial accusations, Cummings blasted the complaint to the IRS against his wife as “baseless,” and partisan in a statement to Fox News.
“These baseless claims come from a group funded by right-wing mega-donors known for their political hit jobs,” Cummings said in a statement to Fox News. “I am confident that they will be exposed for what they really are – a fabricated distraction from the important work being done on behalf of Americans, such as lowering the skyrocketing prices of prescription drugs.”
In June Andrew Kerr revealed he obtained the audited financial statements for the charity run by the wife of Elijah Cummings.
The documents reveal Rockeymoore Cummings paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to her for-profit LLC.
The Washington Examiner reported:
A watchdog group is asking the Maryland attorney general to investigate whether Rep. Elijah Cummings and his wife used a charity for improper self-enrichment, according to a copy of the complaint obtained by the Washington Examiner.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, which leans conservative, filed the complaint on Monday against the Center for Global Policy Solutions, a nonprofit organization founded by Cummings’ wife, Maya Rockeymoore.
The complaint asked Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh to investigate the financial relationship between the Center for Global Policy Solutions and Rockeymoore’s for-profit consulting firm, Global Policy Solutions LLC.
The similarly named entities shared an address, phone number, projects, funding sources, and had a cost-sharing arrangement that raises questions about a “potentially improper financial benefit to Ms. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings and her husband, Representative Elijah Cummings,” the complaint asserts.
