There’s An Internal Group Within Facebook Fighting For Their Own Free Speech

Some people of Facebook actually believe conservatives should be seen and heard. They call themselves FB’ers for Political Diversity. Believe it or not.

The group formed after FB engineer, Brian Amerige, made a post. The post was about the company’s “political monoculture” on the company’s internal message board. FB took it down because it criticized the culture many at FB share.

“We are a political monoculture that’s intolerant of different views. We claim to welcome all perspectives, but are quick to attack — often in mobs — anyone who presents a view that appears to be in opposition to left-leaning ideology.”

“We have made ‘All Lives Matter’ a fireable offense…We ask HR to investigate those who dare to criticize Islam’s human rights record for creating a ‘noninclusive environment. And they called me a transphobe when I called out our corporate art for being politically radical.”

    From The Hill

According to Amerige’s memo, the aim of FB’ers for Political Diversity is to create a space for the diversity of thought within Facebook’s staff.

Others at Facebook are upset with the group. One engineer, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, told the NYT that several people had submitted complaints with their managers about the group. The complaints argued that FB’ers for Political Diversity posts content offensive to minorities, but those who lodged them were told the group hadn’t violated any company rules.

Another employee told the Times that the group seems constructive and tolerant of various perspectives.

Facebook claims they don’t censor conservatives. I find that hard to believe as conservative sites see a huge drop off in the number of people who can see their posts. While the same cannot be said for as many liberal sites.

    More from NY Times:

The new group has upset other Facebook employees, who said its online posts were offensive to minorities. One engineer, who declined to be identified for fear of retaliation, said several people had lodged complaints with their managers about FB’ers for Political Diversity and were told that it had not broken any company rules.

Another employee said the group appeared to be constructive and inclusive of different political viewpoints. Mr. Amerige did not respond to requests for comment.

The activity is a rare sign of organized dissent within Facebook over the company’s largely liberal workplace culture. While the new group is just a sliver of Facebook’s workforce of more than 25,000, the company’s workers have in the past appeared less inclined than their peers at other tech companies to challenge the leadership, and most have been loyalists to its chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg.

One of the best parts of this is that some of the more hardcore liberals within the company are complaining about it… yes, the idea of a group for free speech has them TRIGGERED!
