Former Atlanta mayor and current White House senior advisor for public engagement Keisha Lance Bottoms claimed on a recent episode of MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show” that black males are “absolutely a target” of disinformation campaigns.
Georgia Democratic gubernatorial contender Stacey Abrams stated on MSNBC on Saturday, “What we know is that the unseen tale of this tight election that is neck and neck by 52% over 2018. I don’t think it’s because they secretly love my opponent. It’s common knowledge that black voters are overlooked, and this year we now know that black men are a prime target for disinformation campaigns.
Anchor Jonathan Capehart questioned Stacey Abrams’s emphasis on the disinformation directed at black males, saying, “I’m just wondering.” Does this mean she is not attracting the black vote she needs to defeat Brian Kemp in the gubernatorial election?
As Bottoms put it, “Listen, Jonathan, I think that Stacey is right on the money with that. While my kids watch NBA highlights and other videos on YouTube, I sit here and observe them. I can hear the lies being broadcasted. All three of my kids, ages 12, 14, and 20, are getting it. African-American men are targeted explicitly with false information and such discouragement that they won’t even bother to cast their ballots. In addition, I have run for office before. There was a time when I was in a similar situation. I was seven points down in the polls the week before the election five years ago, yet I won by more than 800 votes because people bothered to cast ballots.
